1001 Facts About Space
Gr. 7-12. Rich with full-color photographs, diagrams, and drawings, each volume in the Backpack Books series is engaging, well-thought-out, and accessibly written. Illustrations dominate each spread, which focuses on a high-interest fact, with information presented in short text boxes. Space features illustrations of the different types of galaxies and introduces such topics as pulsars and stellar classification. Human Body discusses everything from the structure of a synapse to why someone sneezes. The books are a little bit larger than pocket-size (hence the series name), so the illustrations are rather small; but the photos are crystal clear, as are the many diagrams. These are general overviews, but they contain enough specifics to answer many questions, and the engaging topics will draw readers. Each volume ends with a glossary and a reference section with even more information. A good series to round out general science collections. Heather Hepler Copyright © American Library Association. Absolutely bursting with thousands of fascinating facts, Backpack Books are small enough to carry with ease, but big enough to provide all the answers. Hundreds of colorful illustrations and photographs bring knowledge to life, and are arranged clearly and logically to make finding out quick and easy for readers of all ages.

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Apollo 13 and to raise scholarship money, the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation has introduced a special, limited edition print signed by astronauts Capt. James Lovell and Fred Haise. The 8 by 10-inch print features a collage of images from training to the launch of Apollo 13.
Lovell and Haise, who together would have explored the Fra Mauro lunar highlands had Apollo 13 not had a 'problem', autographed just 300 of the prints while attending the 2005 U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame Induction.
The 35th anniversary, numbered print is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity certified by ASF Executive Director Linn LeBlanc.

A PORTRAIT OF HOME - by Don Davis
This exquisitely detailed work shows our home planet on a moonlit night in October.
Astronauts say the range of brightness seen here is easily visible to the eye, but not to the camera, making this view impossible to photograph.
From space mankind supplies city lights as well as flares from oil wells. Natural phenomena include lightning, and the northern lights (in a ring around the magnetic pole).
