Can I snorkle/swim with contacts in?
I'm going to the virgin islands tomorrow, and will be spending most of my time on the beach and in water. Unfortunately I have myopia, more commonly known as nearsightedness. I wouldn't open my eyes underwater with contacts in, but what if I'm wearing a mask or goggles, which cover the eyes? No water would be touching my eyeballs so I'm thinking it would be okay. Does anybody have a definitive answer? My father mentioned that the pressure may affect the lenses as well, but if I'm only a few feet underwater, there isn't much weight from the water to cause my eyeballs to burst, or is there?
Thanks everyone! I'd like to see all the underwater life clearly, hopefully my eyeballs don't explode lol.
I wear my contacts when I swim. I went to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and I wore my contacts. Just make sure you always have goggles or a mask or something over your eyes. If you feel a little hesitant still, then take some eye drops so if you feel like your eyes are getting dry you can lubricate them when you get out of the water. Also, I would suggest taking an extra pair of contacts with you on the boat or in your bag or whatever, just in case you lose a contact. You should be just fine. I've had contacts for years and have always gone into water with them.
